Punta del Este is worldwide known as one of America's main seaside destinations. It is situated in the department of Maldonada at the confluence of Rio della Plata with the Atlantic Ocean, offering ocean beaches as well as river ones. Among its most famous beaches are "Portezuelo", "Pinares", "Las Delicias", "El Grillo", "La Pastora" on the river side and "El Emir", "Dos Iglesias", "Brava" and "San Rafael" on the ocean side of the peninsula. Punta del Este is famous for the various opportunities offered for water sports as well as for its restaurants, casinos and nightlife .
